For Science Edition
My gaming has taken a bit bit of a back seat the past few days, and not entirely because of the PSN debacle, but prior to that it had been quite busy.
After finishing up Pokemon last time I jumped in to Okamiden. Perhaps it was a bit unwise to start another big Japanese game so soon after Pokemon, Dragon Quest 9, and the unfinished Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey. That's not to say that I've not enjoyed Okamiden, I have, I've just found it very easy to wander off from it. A shame too because it's a great retake on the original Okami, perhaps a bit too familiar, but well worth picking up. There's just not much to say about it other than it plays like Zelda except you have enclosed battles and have to make plants bloom.
Prior to psn going down I downloaded the new Castlevania Lords of Shadow DLC Reverie. I won't dwell on it too much here as it's been an age since I wrote a review so I'll put one up for it. It's good though, at least if you enjoyed the main game enough to get to the end. There's a few different gameplay styles there, and consequently a few hours, and a nugget of plot too.
The weekend saw a co-op play through of Portal 2. I know Mark's been playing the main game so I'll leave that to him, but the co-op works brilliantly, especially if you're both in the same room. The game's funny and the puzzles pitched almost perfectly to make you think without keeping you stuck for hours.
Finally an EA download sale meant I picked up Crysis 2. I had mixed feelings about the first game, I heard someone suggest the problem with the first game is that the effective sensible way to play it is to use stealth, but that it's actually intended to be played much faster than that. Makes sense to me, the game seemed to drag as I inched my way through enemy camps, but on a second play through I ripped through them. I guess knowing what to expect helps.
Crysis 2 suffers from a similar problem, you can't ever be too sure what's coming up so stealth is used a lot. The benefit is that you this time you're encouraged to skip battles if you want. Things are also helped because the suit recharges quicker, and the suit functions easier to snap to, which might be a benefit to the 'consolification' of the game.
The downside is the checkpoint system replacing quicksaves, I don't see any reason why you can't have both. Also the plot seems to bear little relation to the end of the first game, unless that was all tied up in Warhead?
Anyway, Crysis 2 seems a good game so far, but like the first I'm struggling to play it for extended periods of time

Yes, I have been playing Portal 2 singleplayer. S'alright. Bit too much 'listening to talking while not doing much of any significance' for my liking at times, but then that's par for the course if they were going to build on the whole 'story' thing.
Other than that, it's been basically the same games I've been playing over the last few weeks. How uninteresting.
